Christian Birmingham is the critically acclaimed illustrator of Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year The Wreck of the Zanzibar and Smarties Prize winner The Butterfly Lion. He was also shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler Award and Kate Greenaway Medal for illustration. He has been passionate about drawing horses since being inspired in his youth by the paintings of Degas, Stubbs and Munnings. This is his first book for Palazzo Editions.
Anna Sewell was a British writer. She wrote Black Beauty in the last years of her life and it was published just five months before her death. She would never know how successful the novel would become or how instrumental it was in helping reform laws and attitudes towards animal welfare. Black Beauty has sold an estimated 50 million copies since its publication in 1877.
